What is a Shabbat x Sangeet?

Our Shabbat x Sangeet is a pre-wedding celebration that blends Jewish, Indian, and Moroccan traditions.

In the Jewish tradition, shabbat is a weekly period of rest and family time that spans from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday. The beginning of shabbat is traditionally marked with prayers, wine, challah, and a family meal.

A sangeet is an Indian pre-wedding party in which the families are meant to meet, mingle, and dance. It is a fun, lively event where family members and friends traditionally perform choreographed dances.

Both Moroccan and Indian cultures celebrate weddings with a henna party or mehendi, in which the bride and guests have their hands decorated with henna paste.

We are bringing together all three of these traditions (and adding a dash of Brooklyn) for our Shabbat x Sangeet. Expect dinner, drinks, dancing, shabbat prayers, sunset views, and FUN.

Can I get mehendi (henna) done?

Yes, there will be mehendi artists on Friday night. Everyone is welcome to get theirs done.

What if I don't have any Indian clothes?

That is totally fine! Wear something colorful and fun.

I'd love to wear something Indian but I have no idea where to start...

Check out the resources on the "Attire" page. Also feel free to text Nina at (650) 867-6462 for specific recs/advice about where to shop.

How do I get to Red Hook?

For most people, driving is probably the best option, as there is no subway in Red Hook. There will likely be traffic on a Friday afternoon so please plan accordingly.

You can also take the ferry; there is a stop about a 10 minute walk from the venue. The stop is on the South Brooklyn route, which stops in Brooklyn Bridge Park, Wall Street, the LES, and East 34th Street.

What time is the event?

The Shabbat x Sangeet is 6pm-11pm.

Saturday

What time does the wedding start?

Please arrive at 6pm and enjoy a welcome beverage! The wedding ceremony will begin promptly at 6:10pm.

How do I get to the venue?

If you are staying in one of the hotel block hotels, you can walk or take a short car ride to the venue, as all the hotels are less than a mile from the venue.

For others, you can drive or take the subway. The venue is a couple blocks from the G stop at Nassau Ave and a 15 minute walk from the L stop at Bedford.
